Electric Vehicle Detailing in South Florida: Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, and Beyond
Electric vehicles are not just regular cars with batteries. Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, and other EVs have specific paint, panel-gap, and interior considerations that require trained detailing across South Florida.
Electric vehicles have moved from a niche to a mainstream presence on South Florida roads. Teslas dominate the freeway, Rivians appear in beach communities, Lucid Airs surface in luxury garages, and Polestars, Hyundai Ioniqs, Genesis Electrified, Ford Mustang Mach-Es, and BMW i-series are everywhere. Detailing these vehicles is not radically different from detailing a comparable internal-combustion car — but there are real considerations that a generic detailer can miss. Eco Car Care details EVs across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach, and the considerations matter.
What Is Different About EV Detailing
Paint Hardness
Tesla paint, in particular, has a reputation among detailers for being soft compared to most German and Japanese paint. Soft clear coat is more prone to swirl marks from improper washing and can be marred by aggressive polishing. We adjust pad and compound selection for Tesla-specific paint hardness.
Rivian, Lucid, and the older Bolt/Volt platforms each have their own paint behavior. A detailer who treats every car the same is not paying attention.
Panel Gaps and Trim
Most EVs have unusually consistent panel gaps because they are not constrained by engine mount geometry. That said, the trim along those gaps — particularly on Teslas — can collect more wash water than expected. We dry these areas specifically to prevent water runoff staining over time.
No Engine Bay (Mostly)
EVs typically have a frunk (front trunk) instead of an engine bay. Detailing the frunk is more like detailing a trunk than an engine bay — but high-voltage battery components below still need to be respected during any underbody work.
High-Voltage Safety
EV battery packs run high voltage. Pressure-washing under the vehicle, around battery covers, or near charging port assemblies requires care. We use steam in those areas where appropriate and avoid high-pressure water on charging-related components.
Glass Roofs
Most modern EVs (Tesla Model 3/Y/S, Lucid Air, Rivian R1S) have large glass roof panels. These collect water spots dramatically and are highly visible from inside and outside. Glass roof care — including water spot removal and paint-safe glass sealants — is part of every EV detail we perform.
Interior Materials
Tesla's vegan leather, Rivian's recycled materials, and Lucid's various interior textiles each behave differently from traditional automotive leather. Generic leather conditioners are not always appropriate. We use surface-specific products and dilute application based on the material.
Common EV Detailing Services
Paint Correction
EVs are washed often (no gas station fills means no incidental washes) and most owners are particular about appearance. Light to moderate paint correction on EVs is common — usually single-stage, given the soft clear coat on most platforms.
Ceramic Coating
Probably the highest-value service for EV owners. A multi-year ceramic coating bonded to corrected paint provides UV protection, hydrophobic performance (which makes routine washing dramatically easier), and meaningful scratch resistance. Most EV owners we work with end up coating their vehicles within the first year.
Glass Roof Treatment
Hydrophobic glass treatments dramatically reduce water spotting on glass roofs and side glass. Worth it for any South Florida EV.
Wheel Sealants
EV regenerative braking means less brake dust than internal-combustion vehicles, but the wheels still accumulate road grime. A wheel sealant makes routine cleaning much faster.
Interior Detailing
Tesla vegan leather (synthetic material) cleans differently from genuine leather and benefits from surface-specific care. Full interior detailing on an EV uses different conditioner chemistry than a traditional luxury sedan.
Charging Port and Frunk Detailing
Two areas EV owners often neglect:
- Charging port — collects road grime that can interfere with charging connection. Cleaned with a soft brush and contact-safe cleaner. Never sprayed directly.
- Frunk — typically vacuumed and wiped down during full details. Most owners use them for groceries or beach gear, and they accumulate sand and food residue like any other storage compartment.
Why EVs Belong in South Florida
EV adoption in South Florida is high for practical reasons. Daily commutes are long enough to benefit from the cost-per-mile savings but rarely long enough to require road-trip planning. Charging infrastructure has built out across Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. The climate is mild enough that battery degradation runs at the lower end of the range.
The detailing implications are similar to other luxury daily drivers — vehicles are seen daily, owners care about appearance, and the cars hold value through good maintenance. EV-specific considerations are an extension of that broader luxury-vehicle care.
Mobile vs. In-Shop for EVs
Most routine EV detailing is performed mobile across our standard service area — Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, Davie, Weston, Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Aventura, Miami, Coral Gables, Doral, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach. For ceramic coating installation and multi-stage paint correction, our Fort Lauderdale shop is preferred — controlled lighting and humidity matter more on these jobs.
The Eco Car Care Standard for EV Work
Every EV detail at Eco Car Care is performed by an IDA-certified technician trained on the specific paint, trim, and interior considerations of the platform. We use professional-grade biodegradable products, document the process, and protect high-voltage components throughout. South Florida's EV community is growing fast — and as it does, the difference between a generic wash and a properly trained EV detail becomes more visible. We are positioned to handle that work the right way.
